How can I break up with my long-distance boyfriend if I still love him?

Me and my boyfriend live on different continents. We used to talk a lot on MSN and now whenever I say ';hi'; he either doesnt respond and logs off after 5 minutes or he seems very uninterested in the conversation. I REALLY like him but this relationship hurts too much, and I feel like crying whenever I think of him. I'm thinking to break up with him because it hurts me too much, but I'm not sure.
